Would you let your child get a permanent tattoo? A New York woman allowed her 10-year-old son to get inked, and as a result, both she and the tattoo artists were arrested.
The New York Times reported that 33-year-old Crystal Thomas was arrested last month for allowing her son to get a tattoo, but she thought she was giving it a temporary tattoo instead. The boy went to his school nurse to get an ointment to treat the tattoo and the nurse called the police after seeing a tattoo with letters written on the inside of his wrist. According to the police department's Facebook page, Thomas was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and released on bail.
"A little boy shouldn't be getting a tattoo," Thomas told the Times, claiming the situation was a misunderstanding.
The tattoo artist, Austin Smith, 20, was charged with child molestation, apparently without a license. The New York Department of Health's website states: "It is a violation of New York State Penal Code Section 260.21 to tattoo a minor under the age of 18 without parental consent. For more information, contact your local law enforcement agency." Smith faces up to one year in prison for the charge, or up to three years of probation.
"It's the worst mistake I've ever made in my life," Smith said. - At that time, I thought that you can get a tattoo if you get permission from your parents.
A 10-year-old boy wanted to get a tattoo because one of his teachers had a scar on his arm, according to a report in The Times.
"[Smith] "I should have said no," said the boy.
Rock + metal musicians who are tattoo artists
It's no secret that rock and metal go hand in hand with tattoos. But not all inked rockers are content to remain on the receiving end of the needle; many become tattoo artists themselves. Here are just a few rock and metal musicians who double as tattoo artists.
