Who exactly is responsible for Wakanda at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever?
It's clear that Shurey (Leetitia Wright) is the new Black Panther. But in the film's final moments, when it's time for her to be crowned queen, she skips the ceremony - and Mbaku (Winston Duke) appears instead, saying he wants to challenge the throne. So where does that leave things?
Basically, this is what it looks like: M'Baku will become the King of Wakanda, while Shuri will be the new Black Panther. This is kind of a confusing scenario - and marvel In general he could be a little more clear about the ins and outs of the rules and traditions of the Wakandan kingdom. But what are we? to me You know, it all makes sense.
Remember: while the black panther is predominant also King of Wakanda, it doesn't have to be. in Captain America: Civil WarWe are introduced to T'Chaka (John Kanye), the aging King of Wakanda, and his son, Prince T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman). Although T'Chaka is still alive, and I was The Black Panther of Wakanda in the past, transferred the mantle to T'Challa sometime before the events of Civil war. Because when T'Chaka is killed, T'Challa goes into action as Black Panther to catch his killer.
T'Challa doesn't technically become the King of Wakanda until the opening scenes of Black Panther, where we see that the Wakandan coronation ceremony for a new king is also a place where any of the five tribes that make up the Wakanda can challenge the current ruler to the throne in a ritual fight. When one warrior is killed or surrenders, the other becomes king. in Black PantherM'Baku, the leader of the Jabri tribe, challenges T'Challa for the throne - and loses.
Later in the movie, this same tradition is what allows Killmonger to take control of Wakanda. He challenges T'Challa, beats him in a fight, and becomes the king. But since T'Challa never gave up and didn't die - he was tossed from a waterfall but survived long enough to be revived by the magical heart-shaped Wakanda - he is able to fight the Killmonger back in Black Pantherclimax. This time he emerges victorious and regains the throne.
So, while none of this is explicitly explained, here's how to explain the end Wakanda forever. As Princess of Wakanda, and daughter of the former ruler (Queen Ramunda), Shuri is technically next in line to the throne. But for reasons she didn't express in the movie, she chose to Not to become a queen. Instead, she hovers at the coronation and heads to Haiti, where her best friend and ally (and sister-in-law) Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o) lives.
Depending on the way the coronation scene takes place, with M'Baku arriving at the ship that the rest of the Wakandan elders and kings believe is carrying the Shuri, they have planned all this. M'Baku says he is there to challenge the throne, but we don't see if anyone will accept his challenge. Either way, it's probably safe to assume he's become king - at least until Winston Duke's Marvel contract expires or young Prince T'Challa is a bit older.
